Remember my pretty friend Chelsea and how I said I’d be posting my outfit from the shoot in a few days?
Well. I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix lately so it took me a minute to get around to posting it. (Am I the only one that’s excited for season 2 of Orange is the New Black in a few days?!?!) But alas, better late than never. Right?
This is one of my favorite outfits! People are always a little surprised when I wear it because the skirt and top are so structured but the boots are so relaxed. The two looks combine to put the perfect edge on the outfit.
So, you might be wondering about the “country fashion meets designer fashion” headline. The top is Calvin Klein, and the skirt is Diane von Furstenberg. I got the skirt at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York a little over a year ago, and I consider it one of my favorite fashion finds.
I’ve only been to New York twice. The first time was right after I graduated from high school in 2010. We had some free time near the Rockefeller Center one day, and I really wanted to go to Saks. But none of my friends wanted to go, so I chickened out of walking in. After all, I was just a small town kid from Wyoming. What business did I have in Saks Fifth Avenue?
But for four years, I regretted not going in that day. So when I got the chance to go to New York again (this time for the New York Times’ Student Editor Workshop), I promised myself that I would not leave that city until I bought something at Saks.
So that’s exactly what I did.
I triumphantly bought the skirt and an adorable Marc Jacobs top that lovely spring night! And a stylist in Saks even told me he liked my blazer and that it was “a great fashion color.” (I almost died and went to heaven right then.) Both things I bought were on sale, which made the experience even more special!
I really love pairing both pieces with cowboy boots. Just the thought of combining New York City, designer fashion with down home country fashion makes my heart go pitter patter. :)
Like I said, the skirt is Diane von Furstenberg and it’s from Saks Fifth Avenue! I got the top at the Calvin Klein Outlet in Lehi, Utah (here’s a similar one), I got the boots at Brian’s Boot and Shoe in Sheridan, Wyoming (they’re Honcho brand), and I got the necklace at Bella Ella! I stole the bracelet from my mom—it’s originally from Coldwater Creek!
